How it works

How NHL IPTV works with Smartiflix

A featured league, a TV guide and the devices you already own. This is what watching hockey this way involves.

What you are getting

Smartiflix is an IPTV service: live television delivered over your home internet connection instead of a cable or a dish. The NHL is one of its 13 featured sports and leagues, carried on the 61,000+ live premium channels that come with every plan. There is no hockey package to add and no sports tier to unlock: the lineup is the same whichever plan you choose.

That matters because a hockey fan rarely lives alone with hockey. The same plan holds the other featured leagues, 180K+ movies and series on demand and the channels the rest of the household watches. On a night without a game the service is still in use, and nobody is paying for a sports extra that sits idle.

This page stays with hockey and shows prices for one device. If you follow several sports, our live sports overview covers every featured league, and the complete price list is on the pricing page.

How you find and watch a game

Every plan includes the TV guide, the EPG for short. With each channel's programme of the moment and the one after it side by side, tonight's game turns up without scrolling through thousands of channels. Open the guide before puck drop, note the channel, and on a busy night look at what the other channels have at the same hour.

Picture quality goes up to 4K where a channel is broadcast that way, with HD, FHD and UHD below it. Hockey rewards a sharp picture more than most sports do, because the puck is small and the play changes direction in a second. Anti-Freeze 9.8 technology is part of every plan, and updates are free and automatic.

You watch in an IPTV player app of your choice. Smartiflix does not supply the app. Any player able to load an M3U playlist or sign in with Xtream Codes is suitable (XCIPTV, IPTV Smarters Pro, Kodi, IBO Player, TiviMate or Smart IPTV, for instance), and the access details we send are what you type into it. The same details work on Samsung and LG Smart TVs, the Firestick and the rest of the Fire TV range, boxes with Android TV or Google TV, Apple TV, iPhones, iPads, Android phones and tablets, Windows PCs, Macs and MAG boxes, as well as anything else that can run an IPTV player.

What a hockey night asks of your connection

Live sport is the hardest thing a home connection carries, because nothing can be loaded in advance: the play is happening as you watch it. A stable line matters more than a fast one, and a faster one helps when you choose 4K or when two games are on in the house at once.

The simplest improvement is a cable. Connect the television or the streaming box to the router with Ethernet where you can, and keep a streaming stick clear of the back of the TV where you cannot. The setup guides go through this device by device, starting with the Firestick, one of the most requested.

If the picture ever stutters during a game, support is free and available 24/7 by WhatsApp or email. Name the device and the app in your message and the team works from there.

From the order to puck drop

Ordering takes a few minutes. Pick a plan, fill in its order form and send it; no charge is attached to that. Then we write, by WhatsApp or email, with 5 to 15 minutes as the wait, to confirm the order and agree on payment. The M3U playlist and the Xtream Codes login come after.

Order before the night that matters, not during it. A quiet evening is the right time to install the app, enter your details and find your way around the guide, so that when the game you care about begins there is nothing left to set up.

Not ready to order? A free trial lasts 6, 12 or 24 hours, depending on availability, and covers one device. That is long enough to watch a whole game on your own screen and connection, which tells you more than any description can.

Watching with the rest of the house

Game night is rarely one screen. Someone wants the other game, someone wants no hockey at all, and a plan for one device shows one channel at a time. That is why a plan can be taken for 2, 3 or 4 devices as well as for one. Each device plays its own channel: one game in the living room, another on a tablet, a film from the on demand library in the bedroom.

More screens ask more of the connection, since every stream travels down the same line. If the picture softens when the whole house is watching, look at the home network first: wiring the main television to the router leaves the Wi-Fi to the smaller screens.

You state the device count when you order, and a renewal is the moment to change it. This page lists prices for one device; the pricing page has them for 2, 3 or 4.

The season

Regular season and playoffs: two ways of watching hockey

The NHL year has two halves that feel nothing alike. Knowing the difference helps you choose a plan and set up your screens.

A hockey season is long, and that is the point of it. Through the regular season there is a game most nights of the week somewhere in the league, so following hockey becomes a habit more than an event. Then the playoffs arrive, the field narrows round by round, and each remaining game matters more than the one before.

Both halves are played to the same rhythm on the ice: three periods with two intermissions between them. What changes is how you watch, how often and how late, and those are the things a plan and a setup have to fit.

  • The regular season

The long stretch from the opening games to the last night of the race for a playoff place.

    • Games most nights, so the TV guide becomes a daily habit.
    • Evening starts on weeknights, with afternoon games on some weekends.
    • Several games overlap on a busy night: a second screen earns its place.
    • A plan that lasts months costs less per month than renewing every month.
  • The playoffs

Best-of-seven series, one round after another, until the Stanley Cup is awarded.

    • The same two teams meet up to seven times, so each game builds on the one before.
    • Fewer games each night, and every one of them counts.
    • Overtime is played until someone scores, so a game has no fixed finishing time.
    • A series can end in four games or run to seven: plan for the long version.

One plan covers both halves if it is long enough. A full season with its playoffs lasts longer than six months, which is why the 12 month plan is the one that lasts from the first night of the season to the last on a single payment.

Why Smartiflix

Six reasons to watch hockey with Smartiflix

What matters on a game night, and what Smartiflix brings to it.

63,000+ active subscribers

An NHL IPTV service has one job on a game night: put the right game on your screen, clearly, at the moment it starts. These are the parts of Smartiflix that do that work.

  • The NHL is a featured league

Hockey is not an extra. The NHL sits among the 13 featured sports and leagues that come with every plan.

  • The game is easy to find

Every channel's schedule is in the TV guide, so finding tonight's game takes a few seconds.

  • A picture that keeps up with the puck

HD, FHD, UHD and 4K where available, on the living room television as much as on a phone.

  • It plays on what you own

Any device that runs an IPTV player app, from a Firestick or a Smart TV to a phone or a laptop.

  • More than one game at a time

Plans go up to 4 devices, and no two of them have to show the same game.

  • Help while the game is on

Free support on WhatsApp or email, open 24/7: that includes the evenings and weekends when hockey is played.

Every plan includes all six. The only things you choose are the length and the number of devices.

Choose your plan

Start times

Puck drop across Canada's six time zones

The league plays from coast to coast and Canada spans six time zones, so the same game starts at a very different hour depending on where you sit.

A game that starts in the evening on the Pacific coast begins late at night for a viewer in Ontario or Quebec, later still in the Atlantic provinces, and half an hour later again in Newfoundland. The reverse is kinder: an evening game in the East is on during the afternoon in British Columbia.

Late games are also the ones that can run longest in the playoffs, when overtime has no fixed end. If you live in the East and follow a team from the West, a second screen in the bedroom is worth more than it sounds.

Weekend afternoons work the other way round. An afternoon game in the East is a morning game on the Pacific coast, which is one more reason to check the guide the day before and not at the last minute.

The clocks in this section show the current time in each zone, so you can place a start time on your own evening at a glance. The TV guide in your app lists the games themselves.

Fans

Which kind of hockey fan are you?

The way you follow the game decides the plan and the setup. Four common cases.

  • You watch from the first game to the last

If hockey is on in your house from opening week to the final series, length is what counts. A longer plan costs less per month and spares you a renewal in the middle of a playoff round.

    See the 12 month plan
  • You tune in for the playoffs

Some fans leave the long season to others and arrive when the series begin. A single month gets you started with no commitment, and you renew for as long as your team keeps playing.

    See the 1 month plan
  • Two fans, two teams

When one of you wants one game and the other wants a different one, order the plan for more than one device. Each device shows its own channel. This page's prices are for one device only.

See prices for 2, 3 or 4 devices
  • Hockey is one sport of several

If the same household follows football, basketball or soccer as well, nothing changes: every featured league is in the same plan as the NHL.

    See every featured league

Whichever fan you are, the lineup is identical. Choose the length and the number of devices, and the hockey is the same.

Plans and the season

Which plan fits your hockey season?

Every NHL IPTV plan carries the same hockey. What changes is how much of the season one payment covers and what a month costs.

Start from how long you will actually watch. On one device, a month costs $20.00 with the monthly plan, $17.00 with three months, $11.00 with six and $8.17 with the annual plan, a year plus 30 days that cost nothing. The longer the plan, the less each night of hockey costs.

Then think about the calendar. A full season with its playoffs lasts longer than six months, so a six month plan started on opening night ends before the Cup is awarded, while one started in midwinter carries you through the final. The annual plan covers a whole season whenever you begin, and the summer that follows.

Game night

Seven things to do before puck drop

The ten minutes before the anthem are better spent on this list than on a login screen.

  1. Check tonight's start time

Look up the game in the TV guide during the day. Remember that a game on the other coast starts hours earlier or later on your clock.

  2. Open the app early

Start your IPTV player a few minutes ahead and let the channel list and the guide load, so the first faceoff is not spent watching a progress bar.

  3. Use the cable if you have one

A television or box wired to the router gives the steadiest picture. On Wi-Fi, the 5 GHz band and a short distance to the router both help.

  4. Give the game the bandwidth

Big downloads and video calls in the next room compete with the stream. Pause whatever can wait until the final horn.

  5. Set up the second screen

If two games matter tonight, sign in on the other device before either one starts. Your plan has to cover that number of devices.

  6. Know where the other games are

Note the channels of the games you might switch to. There are two intermissions, and each is long enough to check a score somewhere else.

  7. Leave room for overtime

In the playoffs a tied game goes on until a goal. Plan nothing tight for after the scheduled end, and keep a charger near the phone.

  • Watch a game before you pay

The trial is free, covers one device and never asks how you would pay. Use it on a game night, on your own connection.

    Start a free trial
  • A guide for your screen

Step by step setup for the most requested devices, from streaming sticks to Smart TVs and phones.

Questions

Hockey on Smartiflix: questions before you order

Short answers to what fans ask most.

Can I watch NHL games with Smartiflix?

Yes. The NHL is one of the 13 featured sports and leagues on Smartiflix, carried on the 61,000+ live premium channels included in every plan. You find the game you want in the TV guide and watch it in your IPTV app.

Do I need a hockey package or a sports add-on?

No. There is one lineup and it is the same in every plan, so hockey comes with it. The only choices you make are the length of the plan and the number of devices.

Does NHL IPTV cover the playoffs as well as the regular season?

The NHL is a featured league throughout its season, so you can follow the regular season and carry on into the playoffs on the same plan, for as long as the plan is running. Check the end date of a short plan before a series begins.

How do I find tonight's game?

In the TV guide of your app. Go down the channels until you see the game; the guide gives its channel and its start time.

Can I watch hockey in 4K?

Picture quality goes up to 4K where a channel is broadcast in it, with HD, FHD and UHD otherwise. A 4K picture also needs a 4K screen and a connection fast enough to carry it.

Can we watch two different games at once?

Yes, on a plan ordered for two devices or more. There can be up to 4, and nothing ties one to the channel of another. The one-device price is the one printed on this page; the pricing page has the others.

Which devices can I watch hockey on?

On phones and tablets (iPhone, iPad or Android), computers (Windows or Mac), sticks and boxes (Apple TV, Google TV, Android TV, MAG, Fire TV, Firestick) and Smart TVs from Samsung or LG, along with every other device that has an IPTV player app. The setup guides cover the most requested ones step by step.

Which plan covers a whole NHL season?

The 12 month plan. A season with its playoffs lasts longer than six months, and the annual plan runs for 395 days, 30 of them free, so it lasts from the first night of the season to the last. On one device it costs $98 CAD, which is $8.17 per month.

I only want the playoffs. Which plan should I choose?

A short one. The monthly plan costs $20 CAD on one device and can be renewed for as long as you keep watching, and the three month plan costs less per month if you expect to follow every round.

What time do games start where I live?

It depends on where the game is played. Canada has six time zones, and the Pacific coast is hours behind Ontario and Quebec, so an evening game there starts late at night in the East. The TV guide lists the games, and the clocks on this page show the current time in each zone.

Will the picture hold during a big game?

Every plan includes Anti-Freeze 9.8 technology, and the rest depends on your home connection, because live sport cannot be loaded in advance. A wired connection to the television is the most reliable setup, and support is available 24/7 if you need help.

How quickly can I be watching after I order?

From the moment your order form arrives, give us 5 to 15 minutes: that is when we write to you by WhatsApp or email to confirm it and agree the payment method. The access details are sent next. Order ahead of the game you want to see, not during it.

Can I try it on a game night first?

Yes, and it is free. Depending on availability the trial is 6, 12 or 24 hours long, on one device, and you give no payment details to get it. Request it on the free trial page.

Do I need a fast internet connection to watch hockey?

A stable one matters more than a fast one, because a live game cannot be loaded in advance. Speed is useful for 4K and for a house with several screens on, and the easiest fix for a shaky picture is to wire the television to the router.

Do I need a new device to watch hockey this way?

Usually not. If a device can run an IPTV player app, it can run Smartiflix, so the Smart TV, streaming stick, phone or computer you already own is normally enough. If your television cannot install a player, a streaming stick in one of its HDMI ports solves it.

Can I follow a game on my phone?

Yes. A phone or a tablet runs an IPTV player app like any other device, with the same TV guide and the same channels. On mobile data, keep an eye on your allowance, because live video uses a lot of it.

What happens if my plan ends during the playoffs?

The service stops on the end date, so renew before it. The renewal form wants two things, your username and your next plan; a payment link is then sent to you. Renewing a few days early avoids a gap in the middle of a series.

Can I change plan when the playoffs start?

Yes. When you renew, you can keep the plan you have or switch to a different length or number of devices, for example a second device for the weeks when two series are on at once.

Is IPTV hockey any different from the other sports on Smartiflix?

No. Hockey uses the same plans, the same TV guide and the same devices as every other featured league. If you follow more than one sport, the live sports page covers them all.

Ready for the next puck drop with NHL IPTV?

Choose a plan and send the order form. There is nothing to pay at that moment, and we get in touch within 5 to 15 minutes.
